5 Ways to Build Empathy and Kindness in your Kid

You might think that kindness is something that every kid is born with, but the truth is some kids find it difficult or understand what kindness looks like. Just like reading, swimming, eating, emotional intelligence should also be taught to kids from an early stage in their life.

Watch your daily actions

Kids often copy what parents do rather than what parents teach. So practice being kind in your day-to-day actions. Show your child respect when redirecting them or disciplining them. Speak to your spouse with kindness.

Play the game "Guess the Emotion"

Try and play games like "What are you feeling?" or "Guess the Emotion". This helps kids understand what emotions are like and how people feel differently from one another in similar situations. You can also play this game while walking on the road and ask your kid, what that person might feel like?

Teach them the art of collaborating

From a young age teach them how they can help parents in household chores. For example: putting vegetables in the refrigerator after you buy them from the store or after they are delivered, giving money to the shopkeeper, stacking the washed utensils in the cabinets.

Teach them their behavior can bring joys and sorrows to somebody

Explain that it is nice to be helpful, even if the person doesn’t say thank you or appreciate it. You should give to give – not give to get.

Say No to Teasing even at Home

Strictly don't practice teasing to your partner or other family members at home. If you show that teasing is fun sometimes then kids learn that it is ok to tease their friends sometime. As they grow it becomes a natural habit in them. So avoid teasing each other at home.
